ABOUT ME

Jake Heywood

With years of experience in a wide variety of genres, Jake is an exceptionally versatile voice teacher. While he specializes in musical theatre,, his attention to detail, commitment to artistry, and emphasis on vocal freedom make him invaluable to singers of any genre.

Jake has been a musician since he could reach the keys on his mom's piano. A Utah native, he played the piano at every community event, church function, and social activity throughout his childhood. He began seriously singing when his junior high choir teacher needed more men in her Chamber Choir.
He never stopped.

After finding a deep love for singing throughout his teenage years, he continued performing in his local theatre scene. Some of his favorite roles include Eddie in Sister Act, Tony in West Side Story, Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid, and Charlie Brown in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown.

More recently, Jake has loved spending time behind-the-scenes, working as a Music Director and Vocal Coach. Credits include "Les Miserables," "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Little Shop of Horrors," "The Little Mermaid," and many musical revues. Jake is passionate about all sorts of music: he has studied the Contemporary Music Industry, Musical Theatre, and Opera in college. He helped form the A Cappella group VOX at UVU, frequently arranging their sets.

Jake has been certified in Level 1 and Level 2 of the Evidence Based Voicework Pedagogy Program: Voice Function 101 and Mechanics of Mix and Belt through Maddie Tarbox Vocal Studio.

When Jake isn't performing or teaching, he loves to watch great movies, read great novels, and hang out with his great boyfriend and cat.
